Impress announces grand opening of Conklin plant in New York

A global market leader in the consumer metal packaging industry and the largest supplier of seafood cans, aerosol cans and cans for paints and coatings, Impress is all set to hold the grand opening of its brand new Conklin facility, located in New York State today.

All set to open its grand facility only 14 months after announcing “ground breaking”, Impress in this first phase will produce leading edge steel easy open ends for the North American market. The ends have been designed by the Impress research and development centre in France, a world leader in easy open technology (having designed, for example, the “I’m 18” lightest easy open end for the European food markets).

The factory is a model for environmental protection and expects to be certified in Leadership, Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a program managed through the World Green Building Council. Additionally, the operations have a ZERO landfill programme. This means the Conklin facility is committed to recycling all its generated waste sending nothing to landfill. The company will employ 65 people in this first phase. Extensive training has been undertaken for all new employees.

Dennis Kester, President of Impress North America, said: “This is a really great day for all employees involved as we see the first results of what has been a major team effort. I am very confident that this factory will be a major success and offer the best easy open ends to our customers both in terms of lightweighting as well as design and ease of opening.
I take this opportunity to thank Francis LabbĂ©, CEO of Impress for his encouragement and support throughout this project. This factory is a great example of what modern metal packaging is about and will add value to our business going forward.”
