GERMAN TECHNOLOGY WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT INTERNATIONAL PACKTECH INDIA 2010

The latest in German Technology would be on display at the twin shows, International PackTech India 2010 and drink technology India 2010, from 18-20 November at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. With an output volume of 9.2 billion Euros in 2009 the food processing and packaging machinery industry is one of the largest branches of the German mechanical engineering sector, worth Euro 15 billion. The German food processing and packaging industry covers approximately 650 companies with a total of 58, 750 employees.

Food processing machinery includes meat processing machinery, confectionery machinery, bakery machinery, beverage production machinery, dairy machinery, fruit vegetable processing machinery, equipment for the production of basic foodstuffs and animal fodder. Largest segments within the processing machinery are machinery for the processing vegetable raw material (630 million Euros), followed by meat processing machinery (602 million Euros), bakery machinery (381 million Euros), beverage production machinery (340 million Euros) and confectionery machinery (268 million Euros).

At the end of the manufacturing process it is the turn of the packaging technology. Packaging doesn't only play an important role in the food industry, of course. It is also used in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and building materials industry, and throughout the consumer goods sector. The German packaging machinery industry has systematically extended its leading position in the last few years. In 2009 the production of packaging machinery reached a volume of 3 billion Euros and of beverage packaging machinery 1.4 billion Euros. In 2009 the export of German food processing and packaging machinery reached a volume of 5.9 billion Euros. With a market share of 26% Germany remained "world export champion".

Focus on India
India is the second largest producer of foodstuffs in the world behind China. The increasing demand for processed food and beverages, the rising number of super - and hypermarkets as well as the development of new products and increasing hygienic requirements lead to an increasing demand of state-of-the-art machinery. Those developments within the end user branches have an effect on the demand for food processing and packaging machinery that can not be met exclusively out of India's production.

Despite a considerable increase in the supply provided by India's industry for food processing and packaging machinery, there is a high demand for foreign machinery featuring state-of-the-art technology. Between 2005 and 2009 the export of food processing and packaging machinery to India doubles and reached a volume of 347 million Euros in 2009. With 52.5 million Euros worth of supplies in 2009 Germany is one of the most important suppliers of food processing and packaging machinery after Italy. The demand for state-of-the-art food processing and packaging machinery from Germany is still high.

The German manufacturers of food processing and packaging machinery offers themselves as powerful partners for the expansion of India's Industry. Their advanced technology and the variety of their products, which are optimally tailored to the specific customer requirements, strengthen the economic performance of Indian manufacturers. Here, the relations between the Indian and the German industry, which have subsisted for many years become noticeable. A lot of German companies can look back on a long tradition in the country itself and are presented on the market with agencies, subsidiaries or even production facilities.

At International PackTech India and drink technology India 2010 in Mumbai the representatives of the Indian food and beverage industry will find a big variety of advanced technical solutions, which guarantee hygienic and economic production and packaging processes. And they can be sure that they will see state-of-the-art technology. Customers from over 150 countries world wide count on food processing and packaging machinery "Made in Germany".
