APF with IIP commences the Global Residential Training Programme

The Indian Institute of Packaging inaugurated the 2 week Global Residential Training Programme on Packaging Technology on 19th October 2010 at IIP Mumbai. This is the second time that the institute has organized this programme after a gap of five years with the first one being conducted in the year 2005. This time, the participating APF member countries are Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China and India. The function was inaugurated by Mr. J R Shah, the first Vice Chairman of IIP and Mr. N. C. Saha, Director; IIP had welcomed the gathering by highlighting the current packaging scenario. This programme will be concluded by a Valedictory function at Hotel Vits on October 28, 2010 for all the participating delegates when Mr. Safiullah Chowdhury, President (Elect), APF from Bangladesh will be present as the Chief Guest.

In addition IIP will also be conducting their Annual General Meeting on October 25, 2010. Industry members are expected to be participating in the AGM which will be chaired by Mr. Sanjay Bhatia. In Addition Prof. Parimal Merchant, S.P Jain Institute of Management will deliver a talk on the ‘Challenges and Opportunities of Business Today’. This talk is exclusively organized for the first time in the Institute for all members, to enrich everyone’s knowledge on business and open other avenues for the growth of the member industries. Subsequently, the new elected Governing Body members will conduct its 161st Governing Body meeting.

Apart from this a convocation ceremony for the 24th batch Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging Technology and 14th batch Distance Education Programme will be held on October 29, 2010. Dr. Dilip N Kulkarni, President, Agri Food Division, Jain Irrigation System will be the chief guest, Dr. Vilas Shirhatti, Chief Advance Technology (R&D Centre), Marico Ltd. will be Guest of Honor and Mr. Safiullah Chowdhury, President (Elect), APF will be the Special Guest. This ceremony will be followed by the Packfest 2010 a packaging festival organized by the alumni of IIP. IIP Alumni have taken this initiative by organizing the packaging festival under the banner Packfest 2010 which will be an annual event and will be celebrated on a grand scale next year as it will mark the 25th batch of PGDP students graduating.

The Institute set up in 1966 is dedicated in serving the nation and industry to achieve excellence in packaging through its diversified activities that encompass the entire spectrum of packaging.
